A user on Experts-Exchange asked how to do this, so I created this jsFiddle to demonstrate how.
-
Keeping a tally of INPUT contents
Given a set of inputs, keep a running total as dollars of all numbers within them.
-
jQuery's .load() method
When you want to load content from another page on the same server, and display it in your current page, you can use jQuery's "load" function. Only works on the same server, protocol and port, and isn't reliable in all browsers for local files from your hard drive. This is a "sometimes useful" function but very useful when it does work!
-
Hide from printing?
It may not be possible to completely block somebody from printing your web page, but you can make it a little trickier at least. These techniques are actually more useful for blocking page elements you think the user wouldn't WANT to print, like a navigation menu or advertisements.
-
Supporting text for an Input field
Hidden DIVs appear next to an INPUT box to display directions on what should be entered in the INPUT
-
Using FieldSets to group items in a form
Fieldsets are used to visually group items in a form, making it easier for a user to scan the page and understand the relationship between each item.
-
Using OptGroups to group options in a Select dropdown
The OptGroup allows you to categorize dropdown options into logical sections, making it easier for a user to scan the list and find the choice they are looking for.
-
Using Labels to select form elements
A label is descriptive text (or image) that supports the form elements not only in naming what the element will be used for, but also for ease of selecting the element.
-
Capturing keyup and keydown events
jQuery can watch for keys to be pressed and released, and run code on each.
-
Hover indication on a TR
Setting different CSS styles on the currently hovered-over row of a table using tr:hover. Make sure your page has a valid doctype set!
