Drag, Drop, Sort (jQuery)
(Parent-Child issues resolved) Replace jQuery UI with a straightforward plugin to provide the needed functionality. Testing with the Sortable plugin here: http://johnny.github.com/jquery-sortable/

JQuery UI Table Sort N-Level
NOTE: This will require Ajax and server-side handling to work fully. Building on the hierarchy project, now working on semantic multilevel nested categories (i.e., parent->child->child->child, etc.) This specific code is meant to allow the end-user to sort sibling categories. Update will call for ajax handler to push the resultant array of values to server for processing. The array index + 1 will provide the actual category order. Ultimately, the index+1 values are all that will be updated in the database.

JQuery UI Table Sort Pseudo-Hierarchy
This tackles the long running problem of parent-child row sorting for tables. In this case, here are no nested structures. The hierarchical relationship is purely semantic and not structural (i.e., use of class names to designate parents and children). So far, this seems to work well with compliant browsers. Need to cross-test more.

Code playground for Chosen, which provides a stable alternative to the clunky combobox of jQuery UI.

Smart Autocomplete
Created by Laktek (https://github.com/laktek/jQuery-Smart-Auto-Complete) Turns a standard input field into an autocomplete box. It is more semantic than some other approaches (i.e., is built in a standard form element), and very light.weight.
-
Combobox plugin
created by Ted Lin via GitHub, it is a light, easy-to-implement combobox that only needs JQuery 1.9+. It does NOT require JQuery UI. However, this approach has a serious problem - namely, the underlying structure required to make this work is not based on a standard form element. So effectively there is no input fallback. Nice combobox, but not safe.

It's still in alpha, but the Trumbowyg Editor by Alex D (https://github.com/Alex-D/Trumbowyg) is already showing signs of intense awesome. Gonna have me some fun experimenting with it. :)
