ADHD Test For Adults
In an ADHD evaluation, the examiner will ask questions about the person's behavior and history. They will want to know how symptoms have affected the individual's everyday life, including school and work.
They may also ask to review the school's old records, particularly report cards. They can help the evaluator decide whether ADHD symptoms began in the early years of childhood (technically, before age 12). The evaluator may also interview family members.
Symptoms
If you suspect you may have ADHD It is important to see a medical professional who is qualified and skilled in diagnosing ADHD in adults. They will assess your symptoms and discuss them with you of problems at home and work, drug and alcohol usage, as well as your relationship with your family and friends. Bring any old documents or report cards from your childhood, if you have them. The doctor may request to talk to your teachers, parents or any other individuals who know you well since you were a kid. You might be provided with an inventory of symptoms or a scale of behavior like Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales or Barkley Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale. Both of these self-report measures require you to evaluate the frequency of your symptoms, ranging from "never" up to "very often". Your doctor will also check for other disorders that appear like or coexist with ADHD like depression and anxiety. The doctor will also give you a physical exam, due to the fact that certain medical conditions, like thyroid problems and seizure disorders, can have symptoms that mimic those of ADHD.
