How to Repair a Dead Car Key

Dead Key Fob Battery
Modern key fobs allow us to open doors, trunks, and tailgates without the need for a physical car key. Some key fobs even have a built-in key that can be used to start our vehicles. However, these key fobs depend on a tiny battery that powers their remote functions. If the battery is dead and the key fob stops working, it will not be able to transmit a signal that can be used to start the vehicle. Fortunately, there are many ways to fix the problem and get your car operating again.
First, you must find out if your key fob is dead. If it seems to be, you'll have to replace the battery. You can do this yourself by removing the key fob from its clip or using a small flat-head screwdriver to pry it apart. Be cautious not to put too much pressure on the fob or you may damage the fob. It is also important to ensure that you're using the right kind of battery. Most key fobs use CR2032 3-Volt batteries, but some models may require a different type of battery. You can sometimes revive a key fob that isn't dead by moving it closer to the vehicle. Since the majority of key fobs use RFID (radio-frequency identification) they only function at a short distance and need to be close enough for the ignition system to recognize the signal.
