this mutation uses the Lame genes to decide where pattern goes.
La^l = lacing round feather/scale edges.
La^d = spangling or sth.
La^s = scatter, random metallic scales?
La^f = some other pattern. (would be full)

three alleles: gold, silver, copper colour.
- one gold and one copper causes rose gold.

either epistatic to pearl (pearl won't form)

- renamed Mel to K.  partly as a nod to ootg, but also it is based on K in dogs (controls black, mask, brindle i think?) and orange in cats (tortie, sexlinked) merged together.

- mask is gene-based now:  K^m
still keep modifier though.   cooling egg can switch gene off, or halve opacity.


- psuedo double merle (mrl^p + Mrl) is too easy.
involve another gene, with mrl^p/mrl^p.   it's a hint already, with part-blue eye etc.
pa^m on pastel locus.  has minimal own appearance too: pale eye and spine specks/dilution.


- need brockling, ticking or belton spots.
it modifies tobiano (Sp^tb), patch (P), colour-sided (P^cs) and splash (P^spl)?
not solid white,...
