Tips for teaching your child to ride a scooter

Assuming your child has never ridden a scooter before, here are some tips to get them started:

1. Start with the basics - Before getting on the scooter, show your child how to properly stand on it. They should be standing with one foot on each side of the deck, about shoulder-width apart.

2. Get them moving - Once they're in position, have them start pushing off with one foot to get the scooter moving. They can alternate feet as they go.

3. Help them steer - To help them turn, gently lean the handlebars in the direction you want them to go. For example, if you want them to turn left, lean the handlebars to the left.

4. Put on the brakes - When it's time to stop, have your child use their foot to brake by pressing down on the rear fender (the part that sticks out in back). This will cause the front tire to come off the ground and stop the scooter.
